Values
For the disabled to be loved, appreciated, and endeared.
Objective
For society to understand the disabled for who they are, not for the disabled to become "normal".
Purpose
Here to provide moral and mental support for families. We offer seminars, classes, and weekly activities for families to connect and learn from each other. We provide classes, social activities, bimonthly masses, and more for the disabled to join. Our volunteers are always ready to support any programs in mind.
Community
Focus
Providing a safe place for parents, and social activities for the disabled. KHARIS is a place to grow and learn together.
Current Programs
Kreasi KHARIS
Also known as KHARIS Creates, this weekly program taught by professional teachers is designed to nurture students' talent through hands on projects. Here, KHARIS members draw, paint, and even make pottery!
Dapur KHARIS
KHARIS Kitchen is taught by professionals. KHARIS members make a variety of dishes, starting from cooking shumais to decorating cakes.
Satva KHARIS
Satva is Sanskrit for goodness and truth. Here, KHARIS advocates for the environment, making ecofriendly soap and creations with waste goods.
Puspita KHARIS
Puspita means flowers, thus symbolizing this program's activities to create bouquets of flowers for church decorations and to give to others.
Nada KHARIS

KHARIS Berbagi
To reverse the stigma that the disabled always needs help, KHARIS shares provides a platform for KHARIS members to give back to the community. Concrete examples include donations to ASAK (scholarship foundation) and to ATMI Cikarang school.
Raga KHARIS
Raga (or body) KHARIS is a program where the disabled can exercise and learn motoric movements through Karate.
Pelita KHARIS
We believe in the importance of parents' involvement in their disabled child's activities. As a community, we also aim to support parents who often feel like giving up.
Bimonthly Mass
In this special mass, KHARIS members have the opportunity to become mass servants: everything from lectors, to choir, to altar boys. Families who were previously embarrassed to go to common masses are given the opportunity to avoid judgmental stares from other families.
Yatna KHARIS
Our E-Commerce store where the disabled can share their arts and creations through sellable products which you can buy!
Brunch
Brunch is a way for Basic Ecclesial Communities to come and learn about KHARIS. Here, KHARIS members become "servers" while BEC members are customers. KHARIS member Jose is given the opportunity to become a barista!
First Communion and Confirmation Class
Due to struggles in joining common first communion and confirmation classes, KHARIS provides classes for these children. The classes are held by professionals, and are held yearly.
Our Story...
...started with four parents who wanted their children to have activities and to socialize. These parents really wanted to build a group for their disabled children. KHARIS was established as a community in 2001 by these four parents, supported by Fr. Yan Sunjata, OSC. This community was strong for a few years.
However... KHARIS experienced a vacuum until 2016. With the support of Fr. Bimo in St. Monica BSD church, KHARIS returned to Serpong Parish St. Monica Church. Friends with disabilities began to gather, and a community formed. KHARIS's goal was to provide a platform. We gathered because we wanted to share and live this life together. We realized that one of the most important aspects of facing this is community. A community always ready to help, listen, and provide support.
Now,KHARIS has grown into a large community. Together with the support of parents, mentors, and Sahabat KHARIS, KHARIS is able to walk strong in Christ. We’re Here, and We’re Not Leaving.
We have a total of 68 families walking with us.
Absolutely. We are open to any disability. In fact, most of our members are autistic. We also have those with cerebral palsy, down syndrome, hydrocephalus, blindness, deafness, ADHD, physical disabilities, and many more.
You must be part of the St. Monica BSD parish to join. However, if you are not part of our parish and would like to have a community like KHARIS, we are open to sharing and helping your parish build a community just as loving as ours. Please contact the Head of KHARIS, Ida Koeswara, for inquiries.
If you are a disabled adult looking to be part of our community, you are welcome to join. If you are a parent looking for an activity for your disabled child, your family is welcome to join. However, it is important for you to actively be part of the community. We are not a daycare for your disabled children; rather, we are a place to grow and communicate with each other. Therefore, you must come with your children to these activities, showing genuine interest and support for your child. If you want to become a volunteer, please check the Sahabat KHARIS page.
If you are looking to donate, please contact Ida Koswara (Head of KHARIS) through +62 815-9140-320. If you are unable to donate, we instead ask for your time and prayers, along side with your acceptance of the disabled.
